When Art Meets Tech and Sport: Projection Mapping for The Nike Air Jordan Brand at the 2023 NBA All-Star Game

CREATING THE PROJECTION:

Strategically beamed onto the Radisson Hotel outside the Vivint Arena, our projection became an engaging focal point for attendees at the 2023 NBA All-Star Game. To beautifully showcase the Nike Air Jordan brand, our team put in place an intricate blend of technical finesse and creative vision. We harnessed various top-notch resources, including over 20 32k 4k Barco projectors. Carefully aligned to match the distinctive shape of the building, the projectors created an image over 40,000 sqft.

In preparation for Salt Lake City’s cold and windy weather, we custom-manufactured four weather enclosures equipped with climate control technology, protecting the equipment and ensuring optimal performance despite the conditions.

Due to the unique orientation of the building, we faced the challenge of maintaining the proper aspect ratio for the projection. To address this, our team mounted the projectors on 40ft of scaffolding, ensuring a precise depiction of the visuals perfectly blended with the building’s surface.

RECOGNITION & IMPACT:

This project caught the attention of some esteemed figures in the basketball world. Michael Jordan, an undeniable influence on the sport, and Jason Tatum, the 2023 NBA All-Star Game MVP, graciously acknowledged our installation. Their expressions of appreciation subtly underscored the quality of our projection mapping project and served as a testament to the collective efforts of the Lumen and Forge team.

The collaboration between Lumen and Forge, alongside Elite Media Inc, culminated in an extraordinary display outside one of the year's biggest sporting events. As we partnered with Nike Air Jordan, we combined innovative technology and thoughtful planning to create a truly unique experience. The recognition we received from iconic figures in the basketball world was the icing on the cake. Ultimately, this project was about more than making a splash—it was about contributing to the event's atmosphere and creating a memorable experience for all who attended.
