Toro Verde Interactive Museum

Creating Immersive Environmental Experiences - A Puerto Rican Adventure

Lumen and Forge proudly serves as the technology partner for Toro Verde Adventure Park in Puerto Rico. We built an interactive environmental museum, creating an innovative fusion of technology and nature across three immersive thematic areas: Cyber Rainforest, Oceanic Odyssey, and Echoes of the Past. Our team brought Puerto Rico’s rich biodiversity, marine ecosystems, and geological history to life through custom-designed interactive experiences.

The museum utilizes a range of interactive technologies—including LED lighting, touch-activated displays, and projection mapping—to transform natural science education into an engaging, hands-on adventure. Through this comprehensive exploration of Puerto Rico’s natural wonders, Toro Verde Interactive Museum stands as a testament to the island’s unique environmental heritage and the power of technology to enhance our understanding of the natural world.

Retro Radiowaves Arecibo Observatory

‘Retro Radiowaves’ is an interactive exhibit that gives visitors access to a reimagined Arecibo Observatory’s control room from the 1960s. The installation allows visitors to find and decode radio signals by moving the antenna in six directions (up, down, left, right, forward, backward).
We installed multitudes of tech including CRT monitors, oscilloscopes, keyboards, mouse track wheels and auxiliary analog controls to create a nostalgic experience for our guests.

Beneath and Beyond 3D Map

‘Beneath & Beyond’ is a topographical 3D island map providing educational information about Puerto Rico’s geographic and historic landmarks. This three-screen display offers a bird’s-eye view of the island, highlighting historic and geographic features. The animated projection highlights different areas of the island as information is presented on the companion screens. The display cycles through various views showing regional divisions, popular cities (which light up in the day-to-night transition), bioluminescent bays, elevation features, and cave systems throughout Puerto Rico. This educational display requires no interaction and loops automatically.

Deep Sea Wonders

‘Deep Sea Wonders’ plunges you into Puerto Rico’s marine environments through an artistic installation featuring a custom-designed vinyl mural with printed marine life artwork. The exhibit includes sculpted coral elements created by local artists using recycled materials. A notable interactive feature is the kiosk area with buttons that trigger different coral reef light shows. Each button activates different projection mapping effects that spotlight various elements of the coral bed with different timings and lighting patterns.

Depths Unveiled Submarine

‘Depths Unveiled Submarine’ contains three different interactive installations:

Pressure Chamber: A highly interactive simulation where visitors can press buttons to select and crush different objects under deep-sea pressure.

Interactive Ocean Depth Chart: An educational display that allows visitors to control a virtual submersible’s descent into the Puerto Rico Trench (the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean). Users can navigate up and down to various depths, with a zoom feature that lets them focus on different elements like marine wildlife, shipwrecks (including the Titanic), and comparative depth markers such as the Eiffel Tower. The 3D display shows depth references including the deepest free-diving record (831 feet) and whale diving depths (656 feet).
Live Camera Connection: A webcam system connected to the Arecibo Observatory. Visitors can see themselves on one screen and people at the Arecibo Observatory on another, creating a real-time connection between locations.

Portal of Ages

‘Portal Of Ages’ is a simple but engaging interactive display where visitors open a door to reveal a generative AI landscape image. Each time the door is opened, a completely new landscape appears, designed to never repeat the same image twice. The installation uses generative AI technology to create an endless variety of unique nature scenes.

Shifting Grounds

‘Shifting Grounds’ features an interactive globe projection displayed on a repurposed cable spool and half-dome. This is a custom interactive display of Earth that visitors can control and explore. The installation includes day/night cycle transitions and topographical height mapping. The projection is displayed on a large cable spool from an old mine and a cut half-dome structure.

Storm Surge

The ‘Storm Surge’ exhibit is an interactive installation that allows visitors to control precipitation levels and observe the resulting flood effects in a simulated urban environment. Visitors can see how different intensities of rainfall impact street flooding and storm surge levels in realistic scenarios.
