Exploring the Future with Caterpillar

Immersive Tech Showcase at ConExpo 2023

Lumen and Forge collaborated with Øuterkind to design an immersive and innovative Caterpillar Technology Hub for CONEXPO 2023. Our team was tasked with creating the experiences within the Technology Hub, showcasing Caterpillar’s latest tech and safety innovations.

Utilizing cutting-edge technologies, including projection mapping, motion tracking, and interactive exhibits, we created captivating experiences that allowed attendees to engage with Caterpillar’s advancements in a memorable way. From the mesmerizing Tech Tunnel entryway to the futuristic VisionLink Cube, the hub showcased our expertise in leveraging technology to produce a best in show display for Caterpillar.

Inside Innovation - Caterpillar's Interactive Tech Hub

One of the highlights of the Caterpillar Technology Hub was the Tech Tunnel, an immersive tunnel entry into the Cat Technology Experience. It featured a fusion of technology, interactivty, and realtime capture.
Lumen and Forge transformed a conventional entrance into a mesmerizing canvas, projecting captivating visuals that showcased the remarkable advancements in Caterpillar’s safety technology. The tech tunnel featured a custom-rendered environment equipped with motion-tracking effects, creating an interactive parallax effect for the attendee.

The VisionLink Cube, was another standout feature of the hub. A holographic interactive informational booth designed for attendees to learn about the various new safety programs Cat has available for its customers. Each face of the cube had stylized animations created in an isometric perspective to look like they were floating in space. All of this was a custom manufactured holographic cube never before done. This unique exhibit allowed visitors to engage with Caterpillar’s VisionLink technology, offering a visually stunning and interactive experience that drove more traffic into the booth. Tech Hub hosted an incredible 15000 attendies in just 4 days.

The CAT Command Center was a major attraction within the tech hub, consistently drawing large crowds. Here, visitors witnessed professionals remotely operating Caterpillar excavators located in different parts of the country and the live action was broadcasted on massive screens. Adjacent was the Pay Dirt Challenge Station, where guests could try the tech firsthand under supervision, getting behind the controls of an active machine. Our fabrication team built rugged housing for the screens, complementing the high-tech experience.

Furthermore, CAT Detect, the CAT Safety Simulator was a pivotal component of the project for CAT. Hosted by a brand ambassador, this simulator employed a dynamic visual aid to demonstrate the safety warning systems intrinsic to Cat vehicles. With the integration of projection-mapped flooring and motion tracking, it alerted users about their closeness to the hefty machinery.

Through this immersive experience, Lumen and Forge not only highlighted the paramount importance of safety but also illuminated Caterpillar’s unwavering dedication to cutting-edge solutions.
